On the map below you will find an overview of various flat mud stranding locations in The Netherlands with their approximate position. If you are going to strand your boat, take the following factors into account:
- Luff/lee side. Choose the luff side where possible. You will be pushed towards the deep water when the tide will be rising. On other hand, if you strand on the lee side, you risk staying aground for long time as the wind will be pushing your boat more and more towards a more shallow area.
- Breakers. Ensure there is not much ground swell on the place where you will be stranding your boat.
- Stern waves of (big) passing ships. These can make your boat banging heavily while stranding or getting afloat.
